You've seen it, op-eds, opinions, commentaries, rambling, you name it - by very educated people who evangelize their particular cause or agenda. With so many people voicing their views it would seem that eventually our government would get the message. NOT going to happen!!! I have come to the conclusion over the years that government, beginning at the local level, up to and including our federal government is "government by lawyers, for lawyers" rather than 'government of the people, for the people. One of my favorite columnists is Walter Williams, a man of great common sense, intelligence, and integrity writes for the Jewish World Review and is helping fill young minds of mush with good conservative ideals at George Mason University. So what about the rest of us? What can we do to ensure that writing is not just a spectator sport? There are many bright, intelligent Americans building castles and retirement accounts who could invest some time at the local level in making a difference in reducing government involvement in our lives.
Pay attention to what is going on in your community or town. Be bold, take a stand, go to a city council meeting, a school board meeting, for crying out loud write a letter and voice your approval/disapprova on something that could ultimately benefit thousands of people. Take courage and "Just Do It!"
Another one of Walter's Insensitive Tirades.
P.S. Write your son/daughter a letter and ask them to "get involved" in the community. No utopians, or bleeding hearts allowed - only fiscally responsible, clear thinking, optimists.
