The news out of India should remind us that the US and Israel are NOT the only countries targeted by terrorists. A terrorist, almost by definition, does NOT represent a "nation" but an evil idea -- an idea of creating chaos on the planet. The targets are where they can get the easiest destruction and most publicity. Could it be true that we will only fight terrorists who manage to be both terribly bad and also amazing successful in getting media attention? Here is a recent item in the news from India: Terrorists had attacked Parliament, temples, aircraft, trains and buses in India and spared no one, including women and children, leading to the death of more than 60,000 innocent Indians, Mr. Advani said. ``The epicentre of international terrorism lies in India's immediate neighbourhood ... it gives me no joy in pointing fingers but the involvement of Pakistan can no longer be ignored,'' he said. Source: Click Here. Those who opposed the war in Iraq, and many still do, are either actively on the side of terrorism, or are blind to the condition of the planet. The blind ones are those who most trouble me -- for they give aid and support to the terrorsts by their failure to recognize evil and unwillingness to do anything about it. But, the main question for this posting is where do we, the US, fight the next terrorist? There is no question that the US will handle those, first, who seem mostly aimed at the US. I rather doubt if Pakistan is one of the active terrorists aiming at the US -- even if there are many terrorists within Pakistan. But, just now, it appears that they are helping us more than they are harming us. That doesn't seem to be true about their relations with India. All I can say to my friends in India is that the world abounds with terrorists and that the US must establish its own safety before it can begin to offer much help or safety to others. The Israelis? Well, so far it appears that they have the military muscle to protect themselves, and I just wonder why they don't move right ahead and do just that. But, I'm sure there are diplomatic considerations I don't know about. But, India? Well, it is time that this pacifist nation shed its garments of gentleness and put more energy and money into doing what every government must do for its citizens -- protect the nation. Any nation which cannot protect its own borders had better see to that as its first action -- and gentleness is not likely to be a part of that solution. |
