| What is so hard to
understand about that? The Islamic terrorists attacked us,
much the same as the Japanese did at Pearl Harbor on December
7, 1941. They killed about 3,000 of our citizens -- not just
soldiers -- innocent men, women and children! The
Japanese, at least, limited their killing at Pearl Harbor to
(mostly) soldiers and navy men. The Islamic terrorists did
not. They killed indiscriminately, just to "hurt us," not even
to gain a military advantage.
[Karl Note:
This was NOT an indiscriminate attack, but a deliberate one.
The purpose WAS to gain military advantage over a "foe" (the
US) that was so much stronger than they were that they had to
use terrorist tactics.]
They knew that flying airplanes full of innocent people
into our office buildings would not gain them anything except
for the "shock power" such a thing would create. That's what
they're good at, creating "shock power" by attacking "soft
targets," targets that not only are not expecting to be
attacked, but who could not fight back even if they did. They
knew there were no anti-aircraft guns at the World Trade
Center, nor at the Pentagon, even though it was (and is) the
center of our military command structure. It is thought that
the fourth airplane (the one that ended up in a cornfield in
Pennsylvania) was ultimately targeted at the White House or
Congress.
Even the terrorists (no matter how much they may deny it)
could not possibly envision that their actions would not
just kill the several hundred people on the airplanes and as
many people in the buildings as were in range of the
destruction caused by the airplanes crashing into the
buildings. No one even considered the idea that the burning
jet fuel would so weaken the structure that both buildings
would collapse of their own weight. The terrorists were just
as surprised as we were, but they were pleased, as well.
THE FIRST ATTACK
This was the "opening gun" in the "Third World War."
Just as the Japanese attack on our bases at Pearl Harbor
began the Second World War. So this attack began the "Third
World War." This is what way too many people just don't, or
won't understand. Even some good people who are
otherwise intelligent and knowledgeable on what's going on
in the world. I fully understand the purposeful inability of
the liberals in both major political parties to understand
that we are at war with the Islamic terrorists. But I
don't understand it when my friends -- people who should
know better -- start saying the same things.
President Bush promised them that we would search them
out, wherever they were hiding, and kill them. That we would
do our best to take away all the money they have to use in
planning and executing their murderous attacks. That we
would go after any nation that harbored them,
financed them, trained them, or helped them in any way.
In other words, he recognized that their act was a
"declaration of war" and promised retribution of the kind
they haven't seen in their long and murderous history -- and
he has, so far, kept that promise.
SO WHO IS OUR ENEMY?
The major
problem we have in this war is that there are no "fronts"
where soldiers of all kinds can fight "eyeball-to-eyeball."
Islamic terrorists are in many different countries and are
working, independently of each other, taking their direction
from the top Islamic mullahs. Our enemy is the Islamic
extremist who thinks anybody who doesn't believe the
way he does is the enemy and is "fair game" to be murdered
"in the name of Allah." One thread that goes through all the
terrorist activity in the world (with the possible exception
of that in Ireland) is Islam. More particularly, Wahabe
Islam. The Wahabe sect of Islam is the most "far out there"
bunch there is -- and their major base of operations is
Saudi Arabia, where Wahabeism is the "national religion."
This is where all children are taught to hate
the "infidel," (which is any "unbeliever") from the earliest
age. The Saudis claim that Wahabeism is only a very small
percentage of the Islamic religion in their country, but
people who have lived there say otherwise. The non-violent
Muslims are the ones who are in a distinct minority, but are
afraid to speak up for fear of being murdered by the Wahabis.
Furthermore, the are in the minority worldwide. The largest
percentage of Muslims all over the world hate America and
all other civilization because it has surpassed their own in
a little over 250 years. The Arab world has been there for
thousands of years, but our freedom and capitalism have
outstripped them in every way in just a short time. Their
"top dogs" can't let this be known. They have to teach that
our way of life is "against Allah" and to live as we do will
cause them to lose their immortal soul. So even after coming
here to live, and observing for themselves that the
"American Dream" is a real one, their early training still
keeps them in a "hate" mode toward us.
The Bush administration found, through improved
intelligence (improved because Bill Clinton and his cronies
are no longer in charge of it), that the World Trade Center
attack, as well as many others in many different countries,
was masterminded by an international conspiracy run by
Wahabe Muslims. It found that it was centered in a small
number of countries run by Islamics. That those countries
were actively helping the Islamic terrorists all over
the world. Afghanistan was the first, because that was the
place where the most activity was taking place and where
they had the most overt support. So the Taliban had
to go. So, as part of the war, we "took them out" as a
government. I know they still exist and are still making
trouble for us. But they are no longer a government and
cannot still offer the terrorists "safe harbor" and
financing. But it is a fact that we will never get
rid of them completely because they don't normally come
together as a group to give us a target.
Next on the list was Iraq, where Saddam Hussein was
actively helping them as well, as the intelligence will
ultimately prove, whenever we are able to release it to the
public. He did openly announce that he was going to give
$25,000 (a "King's Ransom" to the poverty-stricken Arabs) to
the family of each person who blew him/herself up and killed
Israelis in Israel (Yes, Israel. The Palestinian terrorists
are also Muslim).
There are other countries out there that are still
actively assisting the terrorists. But they've learned a
bitter truth: they can no longer be blatant about it because
Bill Clinton is no longer in charge. There is a man in
charge now with the gonads to go after them in their own
nests, as soon as we find where they're hiding -- and it
doesn't matter if they're in a "sovereign nation" run by an
Islamic terrorist who has somehow become a dictator of
someone's country.
What amazes me is that people who love freedom and are
otherwise knowledgeable about the world have bought the myth
that attacking Iraq was a "diversion" from the war on
terrorism and has "diverted resources" from that war. It is
not. It is yet another battle in that war, and it is not the
last one. That war will be going on for many years to come
because it is not an "easy war" like World War II was. In
that war, we could easily identify our enemy and find him.
In this one, the enemy hides behind many facades and in many
holes, coming out only to "bite us" once more, time and time
again. They're hard to kill off en masse because they don't
"mass" as a rule. So we're just going to have to kill them
off as we find them, as long as it takes.
WHAT ABOUT ASHCROFT?
Some people (myself included) are incensed about
Attorney General Ashcroft's activities that threaten our
rights as Americans in the name of "fighting terrorism."
[Karl Note: Generally I
agree with this article, but the subject of "rights" is a
slippery one. The only REAL rights we have are
contained in the Constitution. More "rights" have been
created by activist Federal Courts and particularly the
Supreme Court. The real political battle in the US,
just now, is over those few judicial nominations which
President Bush has proposed and the liberals are
filibustering. The liberals know this all too well.
Most Americans seem unaware of the importance of this issue.
I, personally, believe that the elections in 2004 will send
some 60 Republicans to the Senate so they can override the
filibuster!]
Additionally, others (including me) are upset because Bush's
misguided attempts to appease liberals in this country are
actively helping the liberal power seekers to advance their
agenda, albeit more slowly than they'd like. I agree these
are bad things, and I will do everything I can to turn this
around -- everything that is, except "throw out the
baby with the bath water" and turn completely against Bush.
[Karl Note: This is a very
pragmatic position. I, too, would like to see Bush
being even more conservative, but I, too, am a pragmatist
and don't think he could win reelection based on the low
state of morals in society. The liberals want things
for nothing -- hence welfare in grand measure!]
If there were just another name out there that had a chance
of beating Bush and instituting the kind of administration
we thought we were going to get with Bush, I'd
support him/her in a minute. But there isn't. And until
there is, I am not going to work to get Bush out of office
because I know if I do, and it works, the replacement will
be worse, and we will continue our march toward
collectivism/socialism that began when the Democrats took
over almost 50 years ago.
We managed to get them out in the last election, but
this administration, with a few small exceptions, is acting
like a Democrat administration with such as pregnant
girl-friend killer Teddy Kennedy writing an education bill
and telling his constituents "this is just the beginning." I
don't like that, and I'm doing everything I can to stop it
and get the Republicans to start acting like Republicans, to
stop thinking they can make the Democrats like them by
giving them "a little" of what they want. That strategy will
not work. It doesn't matter what they give them, they'll
always want more. To the Democrats, the Republicans are "the
enemy" and will do anything to gain, and retain power. The
fact that the Democrats better fit this description is lost
on them -- mostly because they will not admit it.
In any case, you show me someone who has a chance of
replacing Bush with an administration who will do what we
want him or her to do, I'll do everything I can to support
him/her, but not until. We're at war, and we will continue
to be at war until the last Islamic terrorist has "assumed
room temperature." Those who haven't become cinders, that
is.
