This has been tough weeks in that country. Coalition forces have encountered serious violence in some areas of Iraq. Our military commanders report that this violence is being instigated by three groups: Some remnants of Saddam Hussein's regime, along with Islamic militants have attacked coalition forces in the city of Fallujah. Terrorists from other countries have infiltrated Iraq to incite and organize attacks. In the south of Iraq, coalition forces face riots and attacks that are being incited by a radical cleric named al-Sadr. He has assembled some of his supporters into an illegal militia, and publicly supported the terrorist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah. Al-Sadr's methods of violence and intimidation are widely repudiated by other Iraqi Shia. He's been indicted by Iraqi authorities for the murder of a prominent Shia cleric.
Private Newsletter, April 9, 2004: Bush's Moment of Decision
The GOP ideal of leadership holds that politicians commit the nation to war, but the military makes the fighting decisions. Unfortunately, more is expected of George Bush in the present circumstances -- he needs to weigh in decisively on a debate in the military about how to answer the Iraqi uprising: whether to respond with ferocity and crush the rebellion or use a lighter hand in a bid for the good will of Iraqis.
MADRID -- By the time the Spanish frigate spotted the unflagged cargo ship in the Indian Ocean last December, the Americans had been tracking it for a month and the Spanish had been racing toward it for four days. But when Spanish Rear Admiral Juan Moreno Susanna ordered the freighter to slow for boarding, it ignored his demand, as well as two salvos of warning shots and a third salvo into its bow.
After a six-hour standoff, Spanish special forces rappelled from a helicopter onto the moving deck while snipers stood by. "The effort was worth it," Adm. Moreno says. Hidden in the ship's hold were 15 North Korean Scud missiles.
On the other hand, that does not mean that somebody like me needs to compromise on an issue such as marriage. And that's really where the issue is headed here in Washington, and that is the definition of marriage. I believe in the sanctity of marriage.
President Bush Speaks On July 4th and 5th!
The fact is, we are being shot at, people are killing us, and we need to go in and deal with the problem. Yet the Democrats went bonkers when President Bush said Wednesday that "Anybody who wants to harm American troops will be found and brought to justice. There are some that feel like if they attack us that we may decide to leave prematurely. They don't understand what they are talking about if that is the case. Let me finish. There are some who feel like the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is: "Bring 'em on.""
